5 REASONS GOING TO A FESTIVAL SOLO IS ACTUALLY THE BEST

If you’re umm-ing and ahh-ing about going to that one festival you really want to go to but your friends just won’t commit, whether it’s because they’re low on cash or don’t fancy the line-up. So instead of missing out, go solo. We promise it’s not as daunting as it might sound. Festivals in the UK have some of the friendliest crowds, there are help points and safeguarding volunteers on site at most festivals, and you will be surrounded by people who love the same bands as you do, all there to have the best time. And even better, once you’re there, no one will be able to tell if you’re solo or just looking for your friends.

Ready to dip your toe into the solo festival world? We’ve got the biggest festivals in the UK at your disposal. If you’re not quite convinced yet, we have five reasons why you should give it a go.

Reason 1 – You can see whoever you want, whenever you want

And most important from wherever you want. The world is your oyster, and the festival is your playground. If you want to wait all day by the main stage for the headline so you’re front row? Absolutely! if you want to hope from stage to stage to catch as many bands across the weekend as you can – why not! There really is no limit, even if you just want to hang by the food stalls all day and try the multitude of options, you can. And even better, never miss your fave again because you’re trying to find your mates with little reception.

Reason 2 – New friends

Make new friends who like the same music. Whether you’re holding out in front row all day with fellow die-hards, discussing the first time and last time you saw YOUR artist or bonding over falling in love with a new band you’ve never seen before – music brings people together and might make you some new lifelong pals.

Reason 3 – Freedom to roam

Discover all the festival fun on offer including comedy, arts, bumper cars, rides and food stalls. Why not try that off the path paddleboarding workshop? Or listen to some poetry in the literature tent? You can’t go wrong, and if it’s not your bag, you can just find something else. No arguments or waiting around.

Reason 4 – Decorate your tent

It’s like sharing a house or a flat, compromises on who gets to chose the decorations, your tastes are as varied as the festival line-up and so you end up not decorating. If you camp solo, the only limits is your imagination (and the festival policies!). Bunting, whiteboards, fairy lights – you can make it the prettiest bell at the ball. Or just add a nice conversation starter flag or poster – just keep it classy.

Reason 5 – Don’t worry about losing mates in the crowd

To quote blink-182… “where are you? And I’m so sorry” – trying to find your mates across a multi-acre site can be daunting, and sometimes anxiety inducing. The lack of reception doesn’t make this much easier and unless you want to attach a balloon to all your mates, it’s going to be tricky to find them in a crowd of tens of thousands of people – though we might be onto something here, festival balloons! If you don’t want the hassle of playing Marco Polo, going solo means you only have to know where you are at all times.

Festival dates and starting times vary. Often it is around 12:00 (noon) each event day. For weekend camping options often the festival will have an early entry pass available for the campsite on Thursday so outdoor campers can set up early. Many weekend festivals will also have day ticket options for Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will allow you entry for that day.
