How do I get the best prices and offers for theatre tickets?

What time do shows start at the theatre in London?

Evening performances of shows in the West End usually start at 19:30, with doors opening at theatres from 18:30. There can be some variations on this, so it is best to check your ticket for earlier or later start times.

 

Where is the best place to sit at the theatre?

Views of the stage are different depending on where you sit, the Stalls are usually on the ground floor, and offer the best, closest views of the stage. 

The Dress Circle or Royal Circle is usually the middle level, or top level in smaller theatres, and gives you a view of the stage from above, which is great for musicals and big dance numbers. Boxes are usually located at Dress Circle height.

The Grand Circle is usually the highest level in the theatre, and you can usually buy these tickets at lower prices (though be aware that legroom might be limited in these sections). 

Some theatres also have a Balcony, which can be at the same level or higher than the Grand Circle. These seats often have a restricted view, and the view of the stage is from a high vantage point.

Can you take bags into London theatres?

Most London theatres will allow a small bag to place under your seat. You will be advised not to bring large bags to venues, but each theatre will have its own policy. 

If you are planning on bringing more than a rucksack or handbag, it is best to check with the theatre you are visiting to find out if they have a cloakroom available.

What should I wear to the theatre?

West End theatres generally don’t have a dress code, so you can wear whatever you feel most comfortable in!

 

How early should I arrive at the theatre?

Arriving at the theatre around 30 minutes before the start of the show will give you enough time to have your tickets scanned, go through any security checks and find your seat to be comfortably seated before the show begins.

What happens if I am late to the theatre?

The latecomers policy will vary from show to show, some shows will only let latecomers into the auditorium when there is a suitable break in the performance, and some don’t allow entry at all once the show has started, so it’s best to arrive around 30 minutes before the start of show to avoid disappointment.
