London’s West End is home to some of the best children’s theatre in the world. For younger children, try Paddington The Musical at the Savoy Theatre, Disney’s The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre or Matilda the Musical at the Cambridge Theatre. For a visual spectacle, My Neighbour Totoro brings the Studio Ghibli classic to life in magical fashion. Options for older children include Wicked, Oliver! and Back to the Future The Musical. For something other than a musical, try a circus show like Cirque Berserk! or Come Alive! - Ages 2–8: The Smartest Giant in Town (55 minutes, no interval)
- Ages 5+: Cirque Berserk!
- Ages 6+: Paddington The Musical, The Lion King, Matilda, My Neighbour Totoro, High School Musical, Back to the Future The Musical
- Ages 7+: Wicked, Oliver!
- Ages 12+: The Hunger Games: On Stage

The honest answer is that it depends on the show. Most West End productions don’t admit children under 3, and some set a higher minimum: under 4s aren’t admitted to Matilda or My Neighbour Totoro, and under 5s aren’t admitted to Wicked. Everyone needs their own ticket, whatever their age, and under 16s usually have to sit with an adult.
-
Although SIX is popular with younger audiences, the show is recommended for over-10s only. This is because it deals with a lot of adult themes, although most will likely go over the heads of younger viewers.
